It’s something all of us long for at some point in our lives. In any aspect of life, there’s always a question and we can sometimes spend ages trying to find the corresponding answer.
Since the beginning of Project Infant, it’s gotten such a positive response, one I had never anticipated. But I can’t help but feel I’m trying to fill a hole, one that the government didn’t satisfactorily fill, that I have a duty. I will be honest, I think I had undermined the enormity of the project in general.
But, me being the way I am - the thing I dislike the most is failing and that’s the last thing I’d ever want to do, add more insult to an already substantial injury survivors have endured and that’s all I want to do. I want to give them answers before it’s too late. This is why I am so appreciative of everybody who helps, it’s spreading the load and making it possible to give everybody answers.
But, it also gives the public answers, who were the 9,000 who died in the 18 mother and baby homes covered by the Commission, 956. 1,090. 269. 804. Four statistics of how many people died in four random mother and baby homes.
They were more than numbers, their identities will be restored to public memory. Which is why I’m doing my bit. Beginning June 1st, I will tweet out the names of those who died on that day and what home they died in/are connected to (for those who died in another location i.e. hospital). Note that, only the homes I have covered here will be included, as time goes on, there will be more added. Follow me on Twitter here, I will cross-post to other social networks so find them here. [Twitter is the only exception where I will post them to my Twitter as I have a larger following there]
Above all else, this is why I do this. More and more will come to light over time, count on it.
Daniel, while you may have under-estimated the enormity of the project, never under-estimate the power of one passionate, determined individual to bring about change. Your daily tweets will help to do that. Thank you.
