RootsTech 2022 — my choices.
RootsTech 2022 — my choices.
Well, what a year! I enjoyed this year but if you’re wondering where to start when it comes to picking a session, I’ll give you my top five.
Number 5: “How can FAN’s Give Context to Your Ancestors Lives?” by Patrick-Joseph Elias.
So, if you’re like me and want a better understanding of FAN research and what it is then this one is for you. In this presentation — Elias details what FAN charts are, shows what context they can give followed by a case study that demonstrates how they’re used.
Number 4: “Gen-Z and Genealogy” by Sarah Day. [Twitter] [Instagram]
A lot of people might want an understanding as to how they can help to encourage young people to get into genealogy or might even like an idea of what a young genealogist would like to see happen. In this presentation — Day talks about why there mightn’t be many young genealogists into genealogy and what could be done by both companies and the community to help make the genealogy world more accessible for young genealogists.
Number 3: “Dealing with Ethical Dilemmas in an Online World (A Discussion)” hosted by Jill Ball and Lynn Broderick.
Okay, so I was a part of this one but that’s not the reason I’m including it. As the genealogy world from an online point of view is continuing to evolve at a speedy rate, sometimes the ethical side of the coin isn’t always shown or considered. This one-hour discussion covers a variety of topics with panellists Kerry Farmer, Andrew Redfern, CeCe Moore, Judy G. Russell and myself from DNA to Find a Grave to etiquette in the genealogy community.
Number 2: “Hidden Treasures: Discovering Local Sources in your Irish Research” by David Ryan
Found this helpful as it had shown me the places where you can add context to your ancestor’s lives using sources that you might not have thought of using and where these sources can be found as well.
Number 1: “Scavenger Hunt through Irish Records” by Claire Bradley
While this was an interactive talk, Bradley gives a well-rounded combination of a case study while also showing how many resources there are for Irish genealogy available for free! Fantastic way if you’re starting out in Irish genealogy.
Well those are my picks for RootsTech 2022, what were yours?
