NEW CONTENT:
We’ve reached the 10th home milestone on the website. We are pleased to announce that 369 more names have been added from the Stranorlar County Home in Donegal. The names can be found here and are also searchable with our search engine on the website’s homepage.
The total consists of 365 children and 4 mothers. We’ve faced some difficulty in identifying who were the unwed mothers who died in the home, compared to other unmarried women who weren’t mothers as county homes doubled as hospitals. This is why this number is low. However, one thing that we were surprised to discover is our total figure is actually higher than the number the Commission of Investigation had found.
In 2021, when the Commission released its final report, their final figure for how many children had died there was 343. So, Project Infant has found 22 more children than the Commission had. [Author’s Note: I will admit, I don’t know how they managed to miss them, they stood out.]
PROGRESS UPDATE:
It’s only a slight update but I feel it’s worth mentioning regardless. The total count of names found for St. Patrick’s Mother and Baby Home on the Navan Road found by Project Infant has grown to 2,307. [This has grown slowly from 2,298 as mentioned in our last update]
CLOSING:
As always, Project Infant is always looking for more volunteers, so if you want to help search for the names of mothers and infants or want to transcribe death entries to make it easier for the public to read, please get in contact here.
