According to Merriam-Webster, a nomad is defined as: “a member of a people that has no fixed home but wanders from place to place”.
Essentially, I’m now a social media nomad. When Twitter used to be my home for genealogy and campaigning, it’s now limiting users in how many tweets non Twitter Blue-verified users can read. While earlier today, the number was 600, within the last hour, that number has gone up to 800. Me being an avid user and reading discussions and other bits on Twitter, I’m very close to jumping ship completely from Twitter. So, I’ll make this short, if you want to keep up with Project Infant, click here and choose from various socials. But the daily commemorations will go out on the Substack page. If you’re wondering where I am apart from Twitter, click here.
Regular programming will resume (relatively) soon!
I’ve not been as active on there as usual over the past few weeks for various reasons, so haven’t yet personally experienced this new (and unwelcome!) change. I think it is a very short-sighted move on EM’s part, because it will only alienate users. Perhaps it will be removed when reality hits. 🤞🤞
Personally, I will only leave Twitter when I can no longer chat to/connect with any fellow genies at all, but of course there will be a tipping point, and I am already here on Substack, ready for that day to come. I am also on The Other Place (named after a dinosaur - being cautious as I’m not yet familiar enough with Substack to know if it censors the way the T place does, hoping it doesn’t!) but have never quite got to grips with it, so don’t often visit. Do you use it much, Daniel? That may change, but I do like it here, I must say, from what I’ve seen so far.
Nothing ever stays the same, sadly. 😕
Welcome back. Imagine the time before Twitter, before social media! Blog rings, message boards, & paper letters. Discord is becoming v popular for it's similarities to message boards of the 90s. Made lots of friends through those back in the day! Still think for all the work you put into creating & communication you should look into offering a paid tier of content, maybe on here? They have the long read, chat, notes, video, & podcast abilities & who knows what else.
