I’ve not been as active on there as usual over the past few weeks for various reasons, so haven’t yet personally experienced this new (and unwelcome!) change. I think it is a very short-sighted move on EM’s part, because it will only alienate users. Perhaps it will be removed when reality hits. 🤞🤞

Personally, I will only leave Twitter when I can no longer chat to/connect with any fellow genies at all, but of course there will be a tipping point, and I am already here on Substack, ready for that day to come. I am also on The Other Place (named after a dinosaur - being cautious as I’m not yet familiar enough with Substack to know if it censors the way the T place does, hoping it doesn’t!) but have never quite got to grips with it, so don’t often visit. Do you use it much, Daniel? That may change, but I do like it here, I must say, from what I’ve seen so far.

Nothing ever stays the same, sadly. 😕

Welcome back. Imagine the time before Twitter, before social media! Blog rings, message boards, & paper letters. Discord is becoming v popular for it's similarities to message boards of the 90s. Made lots of friends through those back in the day! Still think for all the work you put into creating & communication you should look into offering a paid tier of content, maybe on here? They have the long read, chat, notes, video, & podcast abilities & who knows what else.

That he would wreck it has seemed inevitable since he got his hands on it. The writing has been on the wall for sometime. I left there quite some time ago. I missed the genealogy community but glad to see more and more are coming to Mastodon. There will nothing on Twitter to miss soon.
